Between the living room and the foyer, the original metal between the vinyl flooring and the carpet was in a perfect ARC (it was gold colored which was a common color years ago, I wanted silver today). It was a perfect semi-circle with no kinks at all, perfectly rounded for the semi-circle, professionally installed in 1995.
The vinyl flooring guy did not move the original gold (perfectly shaped semi-circle / ARC) metal between the vinyl floor and the carpet, he left it for the carpet people to replace. It was a perfect ARC.
Just now my real estate agent and also my property manager noticed that the wrong material was used. This creates a very dangerous situation.
The new silver colored metal he used was the wrong material, he used one that is only for straight thresholds, like they used between the kitchen and dining room. But between the foyer and living room we now see that Crew2 CUT a straight piece of metal in order to make it APPEAR to curve into an arc. HE cut it in five (5) spots to make the straight piece curve, thus making those 5 cuts become very sharp. There are now five (5) exposed edges that can tear a bare foot or stocking foot. This is dangerous and makes me liable for any injury.
I can not sell the house or even list it with this issue. My real estate agent will not list it like it is. I was supposed to list it on Friday and now I can’t. This needs to be fixed ASAP. They would not even take pictures of the foyer as it looks bad too.
As you can tell from the NEW pictures labeled NEW_metal_1.jpg etc…. the cuts in the metal.
ORIGINAL gold metal was the type for curved area (for semi-circles & arc's)
NEW silver (correct
color) metal was the type used for straight thresholds
(as they correctly used between the kitchen and dining room).
But
Crew2 CUT it to make it attempt to make it curve, creating a dangerous situation.
(there was some brand new padding put over the freshly/recently
installed vinyl flooring to protect the new vinyl from foot traffic
during the carpet installation. The padding was left covering the vinyl
after the carpet installation was completed). Once you moved the
padding you could see the unprofessional installation.

LETTER TO THE CEO
TO:
Craig Menear (CEO)
Home Depot
2455 Paces Ferry
Atlanta GA, 30339
I ordered 2 areas of vinyl flooring and 11 areas of carpet/padding, 21 steps and a front storm door all to be installed by HomeDepot/Crew2. Plus I purchased many other items at HomeDepot including 4 ceiling light fixtures, 3 faucets, ceiling fan, drywall and many little items.
Total money I spent at HomeDepot to rehab the house in 2017 was $10,363.60
The carpet installation was supposed to be a two day install: Monday 04/17/2017 to Tuesday 04/18/17. Ended up taking 9 days and four trips.
The unprofessional carpet installation was the worse project I have ever encountered in 25 years as a landlord and property manager and home owner for 35 years. All due to the contractors Home Depot used / Crew2 and their sub-contractors and the way your managers handled the terrible installation.
I want to convey to you Craig Menear the CEO of HomeDepot my worst nightmare of my experience of the installation of the carpet from your company, and your staff especially including your managers. Due to the incompetence of the way your managers handled the unprofessional installation of my carpet this horrible experience should never have had to be escalated to you.
I was forced to endure unplanned and unnecessary expenses with a round trip flight back to MN from FL where I now live, plus hotel accommodations, car rental, expenses for food and also unpaid days off of work I was forced to take when I had to fly from FL to MN just to handle this terrible installation.
I will explain the details in this letter to you. I have owned and been a landlord of 7 single family houses and one apartment building. I am quite experienced with contractors and this was by far the worse experience I have ever had with installers or contractors.

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The carpet was supposed to be a two day install: Monday 04/17/2017 to Tuesday 04/18/17. Ended up taking 9 days.
This was
a nightmare of the installation of the carpet. I lived in this house for 22
years and I took a job transfer to Florida. I was not living in this house
during the installation because it was empty and I was trying to get it ready to
sell.
Because I lived in FL at the time I flew back to MN (04/16/17-04/19/17) to be present for the carpet installation. The carpet installation was supposed to be a two day install: Monday 04/17/2017 to Tuesday 04/18/17. Ended up taking 9 days and four trips by Crew2/HomeDepot.
But
since it wasn’t installed correctly I had to fly back a second time.
This second time cost me a lot of money when I flew back a second and unplanned trip (04/24/17 to 04/28/17) because of the terrible installation done by Crew2. I had to spend a lot of money on round trip Delta flight, hotel 4 nights, car rental 4 days that I wasn’t planning on spending.
And I had to take time off of work as unpaid time off because I had to babysit the correction of the installation that should have been done correctly the first time.
PROBLEM from
Carpet installation
from 04/17/17 – 04/18/17:
Because I live in Florida, I wanted to be there for the installation so I flew back to MN and stayed in a hotel nearby. When I was scheduling the installation date with Crew 2, they suggested to give it a two day installation for the 11 areas of carpet and also 21 steps.
Two day install: Monday 04/17/2017 to Tuesday 04/18/17.
I requested two crews of two installers for a total of four installers, but Crew2 said they can’t do two crews but they can do one crew and an additional installer, giving a total of three installers. I said YES.
Arrival window Noon to 3pm. This was confirmed on Monday 04/17/2017 by a telephone call from Crew2 to me at noon where I confirmed three people (one crew and one additional person). BUT only one crew arrived (two installers). I called Crew2 and they said they made a mistake but assured it would get done in two days because the installers were some of the best.
ISSUE
1 today:
I was promised that there would be three people (1.5 crews) installing the
carpet, but Crew2 only sent two people (only sent one crew which consists of two
people).
ISSUE
2 today:
I was promised it would be done in two days, but it took 8 calendar days and
FOUR actual days. There were FOUR trips by Crew2 instead of TWO trips by Crew2.
ISSUE
3 today:
I was promised it would be in by done by 04/18/17 (two days of installation) it
wasn’t finished until 04/25/17.
DETAILS of the problem:
Between the living room and the foyer, the original metal between the vinyl flooring and the carpet was in a perfect ARC (it was gold colored which was a common color years ago, I wanted silver today). As you can tell from the NEW pictures that there are cuts in the metal.
The carpet was also CUT too short. It did NOT reach the metal, so the carpeting installers bent the metal even more than they should have to get around the carpet being cut too short.
ORIGINAL gold metal was the type for curved area (for semi-circles & arc's)
NEW silver (correct
color) metal was the type used for straight thresholds
(as they correctly used between the kitchen and dining room).
But

(there was some brand new padding put over the freshly/recently
installed vinyl flooring to protect the new vinyl from foot traffic
during the carpet installation. The padding was left covering the vinyl
after the carpet installation was completed). Once you moved the
padding you could see the unprofessional installation.
FRIDAY 04/21/17
ISSUE
1 today:
Crew2 came out on Friday 04/21/17 to fix the problem, but they did not actually
fix the problem. They took a straight piece of metal and bent it to curve it.
It did not have jagged edges, but was terrible looking.
Nathan Pischke of Crew2 said he will have someone out to fix it first thing Tuesday 04/25/17 after he ordered a new box of vinyl flooring to be picked up by HomeDepot. Jeffery Nyberg said he will get someone to pick up the NEW box of vinyl flooring when it arrives at UPS Maple Grove on Monday 04/24/17.
ISSUE
2 today:
I was promised that the person who did the original vinyl flooring would be the
one trying to extend the vinyl on Tuesday 04/25/17.
MONDAY 04/24/17
ISSUE
1 today:
The vinyl flooring was not picked up at UPS Maple Grove as promised by Home
Depot’s Jeffery Nyberb.
Tuesday 04/25/17
Back on
Friday 04/21/17 Nathan Pischke of Crew2 said he will have someone out to fix it
first thing Tuesday 04/25/17 but he didn’t. There was a lockbox on the house
that Crew2 had the combination for. I arrived at the house at 8am but Crew2 did
not arrive until 4:30pm.
ISSUE
1 today:
The box of vinyl flooring arrived about 10am. All but one piece of vinyl
flooring was broken. The entire box of Vinyl flooring was damaged
(cracked/broken) except one piece.
ISSUE
2 today:
Crew2 carpeting guys did not arrive until 4:30pm when promised they would be
there at 7am.
ISSUE
3 today:
On Friday 04/21/17 Crew2 promised to send the same vinyl flooring guy out here
today, but they didn’t.
ISSUE
4 today:
They sent two guys out without telling them what they were going to do. These
two guys kept asking me what is wrong and what they need to do. I told them
many times that they need to extent the vinyl flooring out further than it is
because the carpet was cut too short.
ISSUE
5 today:
I was promised it would be done in two days 04/17/17 to 04/18/17, but it took 8
calendar days and THREE trips instead of ONE.

FUTURE USE OF HOME DEPOT CARPETING installation:
This summer (2017) I am fixing up and selling my 4-plex apartment building. Re-carpeting all four apartments (total of 8 bedrooms, 4 living rooms and a building total of 10 hallways), but I am afraid of using HomeDepot or Crew2 again. Can you call me to go over this problem and if I can use HomeDepot again for the carpeting.
Craig Menear,
No one from your company ever contacted me to ask me if I am now satisfied or to apologize for anything.
I am a disabled vet and I have asked all along to get the 10% off for disabled vets and I could scan in my VA hospital “service connected” VA ID to get it, but no one is helping me on this issue. I also have a 10% off Home Depot coupon in my possession. With the issues listed above and with my disabled service connected Veteran ID I want to get the 10% discount (credited to my Home Depot credit card).
