Introduction to Customizing the Event Database

The event customization file is a text file which stores the information edited by the Customize Event Display screen. The file is similar to an MS Windows .ini file in that the various groups of values are separated under groups (i.e. sections delineated with a [ ] pair).

A separate event customization file is stored under each calendar in a file called eventedit.dat.

Many of the items in this file will never need to be edited directly by you except perhaps the [DISPLAY_STR] Display String section and the [DURATION] section . Most of the data in this file is edited directly from the Customize Event Database or the Drop Down Manager screens.

The Override Feature

A very powerful feature of this file is the ability to override any particular field in an event using as explained in the Override Strings help file.

If you have registered the To Do List Component you may customize the display of to do list items in exactly the same way as you can with events.

The customization file for to do list items is found in the calendar folder in a file called todoedit.dat. There is no direct method for editing this file so you must do so by hand.

To make this easier you may copy the file eventedit.dat and rename it to todoedit.dat and modify that.

There is an exactly analogous file called contactedit.dat for the Contact List, however only the [DISPLAY_STR] section applies.
